Born in Toronto, Canada, Norma Jean Squires is an artist, writer, curator and for the last 8 years, a dancer. Her paintings/sculptures have been exhibited nationally and internationally: Martha Jackson Gallery, New York City; a solo at the East Hampton Gallery in New York City; MOMA's Lending Library; Gallery Moos, Toronto; Galeria Vandres, Madrid, Spain; La Jolla Museum of Art; Newport Harbor Art Museum, and more recently Nagasaki Museum, Japan; Pyong Taek City, Korea; Chonburi University, Bangkok, Thailand; Museo del Puerto, Ensenada, Mexico: Fine Art Museum, Yerevan, Armenia and Atelier Gronard, Paris, France.

After completing her B.F.A. at The Cooper Union Squires worked on sectional bronze sculptures. These eventually evolved into colorful, wall-sized kinetic constructions........wooden columns that rotated at speeds as slow as 1/4 rpm. With the move to Los Angeles, her focus changed to painting and has remained so to the present.
Her work is in such public collections as Sterling Forest Gardens, New York Warner Bros. Records, Burbank, CA., City Investing, New York City, Seimans Pacesetter Systems, L.A., the Redwood City Public Library, CA., the Perkins Building, City of Glendale, etc.

Having been employed as a writer at LA Artcore for ten years, Squires has feature articles published in various catalogs. She is also on staff at the Municipal Art Gallery. Her own work has been reviewed in Visions Magazine, Artweek, Art News, Arts Magazine and many more. A book titled, "Poem Into Life," published by XLibris and featuring a suite of paintings illustrating the poem, will be available in January, 2008.
She is a co-curator of several exhibitions among which are: "Angeles, Ancestors and Spirit Guides" and "Quarks to Quasars." Her work for "I am a Picture Book," one of several Children's Books that she illustrated, was presented on KCET's "Summer Faire."
